What is UrbEd, Inc? 

UrbEd is a non-profit based in Philadelphia that advocates for fully-funded, safe, and healthy public schools in order to provide students with an equitable and quality education we deserve. We are an organization led by those who are and have been most affected by the issues facing urban public schools. Through political education and community organizing we are amplifying our voices--the voices of public school students—to give students the education they deserve and are owed. Our New Intern Cohort!

As an intern at UrbEd, Inc., you will have the chance to make an impact in your community while gaining valuable experience and skills. We are calling on all young people who want Philadelphia to be better, who want to join the fight for an equitable education, safety, and their community. This internship will provide interns with hands-on experience in organizing work, policy initiatives, running a nonprofit, event planning, and more. You will work closely with a team of dedicated advocates and organizers, collaborating with change makers, officials, journalists, education administrators, and so much more in the city.

The Nonprofit Leadership Intern works with the Executive Director of UrbEd, Inc. to oversee the organization. This position offers first-hand experience with the administrative parts of running a nonprofit… from managing our center-city office, grants and donor relationships, government and board relations. This position covers every department, working in communications, advocacy, and admin, it provides a well rounded experience sustaining an organization that is changing the city for good. 

While it is not required, applicants looking to apply should have adequate writing abilities and have a familiarity with social media and online design platforms (i.e. Canva and/or Photoshop…). The  Nonprofit Leadership Internship is designed for high school and undergraduate students, interested in nonprofit leadership, leading a team, finances, advocacy work, and working in government/policy/political spaces. 

Interns will have access to…

  • A stipend of $250, paid in two installments throughout the year.
  • Full access to UrbEd, Inc.'s Work Space located in Center City Philadelphia at 1521 Locust St.!
  • The chance for teamwork and collaboration! You will work closely with a team of advocates and organizers, allowing you to build connections and learn from other young people changing the city! 
  • The opportunity to participate in organizing workshops and community bonding events designed to enhance your skills and foster a sense of community among team members.
  • Practical experience in organizing programs, events, and policy initiatives in Philadelphia!

For applicants we would like to get to know better, we will be inviting you to an in-person or virtual interview in Late July through August. If you have not heard back before that date you have unfortunately not been considered as a finalist for the 2023-2024 cohort.
